The Magenta Foundation and The Cardinal are proud to announce a new partnership honouring a hidden legend of Canadian photography.
For decades, Joan Latchford (1933–2017) documented the real Toronto, capturing the joy, struggle, and daily life of immigrant, refugee, and diaspora communities. Her archive offers a rare and vital record of Canadian immigrant history.
The Joan Latchford Legacy Project will digitize, catalogue, and share her complete body of work for the first time through a book and a series of public exhibitions. This initiative will preserve her photographs and secure their place in Canada’s cultural history.
Led by The Magenta Foundation and MFA Archival students from Toronto Metropolitan University, the three-year project launches this Fall.
We look forward to sharing updates as this important history comes to life.
We have created a limited edition portfolio box set series of Latchford's never been seen before Caribana Selects (1967-1972), a vibrant body of work that helps define Toronto's cultural identity.
