MICHAEL HULME: THROUGH HIS EYES, A Celebration of Life Exhibition of Michael Hulme's paintings

“Yeah we all shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun”

-John Lennon

Michael Joseph Hulme
October 26, 1948-September 13, 2021

Michael passed away quietly surrounded by his loved ones at Michael Garron
Hospital after his heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.
The only son of Doris Warburton (nee Hulme) and Joseph Hulme both of
Lancashire, England, Michael was born in Saffron Walden, England in 1948.
When he was nine, he moved with his parents and younger sister Barbara to
Sarnia, Ontario, Canada where he immediately got to work becoming a proud
Canadian. He quickly learned how to skate and play hockey, a game which would
bring him great joy into his adult life. In high school, he fell in love with art class and would continue on to study at The Ontario College of Art in Toronto.
A talented woodworker and furniture maker, Michael opened a handmade furniture store in Cabbagetown fondly named “Digs”. He went on to have a successful career as a project manager in the Architectural Design field at many of Toronto’s top design firms. Michael’s true passion was for oil painting. He was quite an accomplished painter and his beautiful paintings and handcrafted furniture remain as a testament of his tremendous creative force.
Those who knew Michael understood his unwavering love of and duty to his
family, enjoyed his wry sense of humour, admired his breadth of knowledge as a jack-of-all-trades fix-it man and his immense creative talent, and knew him to be a true gentleman with a huge heart. Michael was a doer and tirelessly kept up his happy place “Trevelgue” the family cottage on the shores of Lake Huron with amazing perseverance and resiliency. His last summer was spent at Trevelgue surrounded by his family which was an enormous source of happiness and comfort for him.

He was our fearless leader, our touchstone. He will forever be loved and cherished. His legacy and love lives on through the village he created and the wisdom he imparted on all of us.
